At the higher rpm I either don't feel/notice it or the engine runs fine (maxes out @ 5,900 rpm (34 mph)) Also this 4-stroke idles like my 2 stroke 25 hp (rough) and therefore vibrates and sounds rough at 800 rpm. The Mercuty 60-HP BIGFOOT engine now has a new battery and a new flywheel. I also tested the two regulators I bought; both had defects. They failed the diode tests in the manual (shorted from yellow to red leads). I got two new regulators, one cheap one off of Amazon and then a proper one directly from CDI just in case.

A check of the owners manual should point out that this is an overheat alarm and that just because the water pump is working does not mean the engine is cooling properly. A thermostat that is stuck shut will cause an overheat at idle. A bypass valve stuck shut will cause overheat at higher rpm.This engine has a batch fuel injection system, mechanical fuel pump of diaphragm or plunger type, electric start with bendix starter, and capacitor discharge ignition system.
