The original poster needed to open the gate from outside the car. The emergency backup inside the gate is not remotely close to being adequate.

What I do now is just leave the drivers window down if I need to leave the car for a bit while it's running or I leave the key on the sunroof and grab it when I get back. My 2020 does the same thing. If I leave the car running, in park with the key in my hand I get the initial beep beep beep followed by a long solid beep. Sometimes, but not always it will lock all the car doors and disable all keyfobs. 50/50 the mobile app can unlock the car. I use the emergency key, get in, Shut the car off and restart.
