Very disappointed in the merit aid my S24 was just offered ($5K / year; $20K Total). Goes to the top public high school in the US (in Virginia) and from past data points, most everyone from that school that applies to Pitt gets $20K / year ($80K Total). The way merit works at Pitt is that a scholarship committee starts reviewing all accepted applications starting on October 1. I think they may meet on Tuesdays each week. Every week after that date, they will send out merit offers to a subset of admitted students. In terms of the PASSHE schools and CCs, $1k tuition p/semester is a good start. But PA remains a really problematic state, geographically, where so many kids are not within easy commuting distance of any college, and this plan doesn't help with R&B. The $1000 tuition only applies to families making $70k or less.
